A Little About
|
Teaching Philosophy.
My philosophy of art education is varied and synthesizes several theoretical perspectives, including, but not limited to, student-centered classrooms, choice-based curriculum (TAB systems), technology integration within the art classroom, and a discipline based pedagogy. Each of these educational theories and perspectives contain aspects I utilize throughout my lesson planning, unit building, and overall student engagement. As an amalgam philosophy, they provide my students with opportunities to experiment with mediums, explore and navigate current events including social justice issues, while allowing them to learn more about themselves as individuals and artists through their art-making process
By integrating technology with art and allow for a self-guided journey within the art classroom, students create unique artworks that contain personal meaning and an authentic voice. These are valuable life skills and art-making techniques that will evolve throughout the students’ life. As an art educator, I believe I have the ability to change a students’ life and assist them in navigating the perils of their multifaceted world through art-making; just like my art teacher did for me when I was in high school. With her guidance, persistence, and support, I am here today paying my learnings forward with my own students. |
